I will illustrate the importance of regular dental visits.
A. You purchase a new car and faithfully change the oil, have tune-ups and otherwise are careful to get the car maintenanced regularly. (This represents the person that has been fortunate to go to the dentist as recommended throughout life)
B. You purchase a new car and the payments are killing you. Hey, it's new and every thing is working well, maintenance can wait. (This represents the person who does not frequent the denist. Whether not as a child or with financial issues as an adult. If it isn't broke, don't fix it, right?)
The likeliness is that car B will have a problem before car A. Why? Because car A is getting regular visits to the shop. Before anything can go wrong, the mechanic can address it.
If your parents took you to the dentist as a child, please let them know you appreciate it today. We weren't all so fortunate.
Let's try it again...
A. You hear a little sqeak when you use the brake. Immediately you take the care in to have the brakes serviced even thought the car was stopping just fine.
B. You hear a little squeak, but brakes have got to wait and the car is still stopping. You are able to carry on for some time without problems stopping. Next thing you know there is grinding....uh oh.
Car A just replaced the pads. Car B had to replace the pads and rotors.
If you have a small cavity or maybe you feel a little sensitivity when you have chocolate, your dentist can make a restoration. If you put it off, you could be in for a root canal treatment and crown. $140 vs. $1900
Your dental health is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Whatever it takes, you must have the care you need...regularly.
